Blog Post 5- "Stand By Me"

As I watched the video "Stand By Me" the author used different techniques to portray the bigger message of the song. The video opened with two men, it did not look like they had much because of the way they were dressed. As they started to sing the song, I noticed that they're voices were really cracked it was not your typical pleasant sounding voice, which further sent a powerful message already letting the audience know that all people are welcomed.

Image result for cultural unityThe voice being cracked and harsh really signifies the hardships of life and you can really hear how the singer belted out the notes, that he wanted the people walking around near or far to hear his voice within the song and capture the same love as they did.

The video transitioned from the men singing outside in the midst of the community to across different countries of the world, where different musicians are also playing and singing the same song, this movement across the globe was spectacular to witness. The composer did not miss a beat. In the different countries, there were people dressed in elegant fashion behind beautiful landmarks of that specified country, while in another shot of another video, there was one man singing in a village like setting where the houses were poorly built and the environment was not as appealing.

In this camera technique of the constant fluctuation from a rich to poor type setting, the camera man sets up this motif juxtaposing rich and poor which was my favorite part of the video because it flows with the message of the song, " no matter how far you go , you will need somebody". In the camera shot where the setting was changed to Africa, and they sung a portion of the song in their language, that was indeed my favorite part. The soft harmonies of their voice was enough to capture anyone's attention.

The video used subtle differences such as the unique way different people dressed, the way they sung the song, also the background, the environment in which they resided. These subtle cues are used to force a stand against the violence that occurs worldwide, because no matter how you look or when you're born we all need someone, and if they came together to create such a great video, imagine what other societal issues can be resolved worldwide.
